You are CORRECT!  The stated goal of the mission is to "degrade Saddam's weapons of mass destruction".  This is sufficiently vague to be accomplished in a day or two.  Can you imagine what would have happened if this had started on Friday afternoon?  Jeez, your buddies might have felt weird holding poker night while the country was at war,  and where would that have left you.   Phew...
